Beijing –

Chinese President Xi Jinping had to be hospitalized in the final quarter of 2021 after suffering from a cerebral aneurysm, media reports said.

It has been found that he preferred to be treated using traditional Chinese medicines rather than going for surgery. This softens the blood vessels and shrinks aneurysms.

There have been speculations about Xi Jinping’s health since he has not met with foreign leaders since the outbreak of COVID-19 in December 2018. His gait was seen to be unusual, with a noticeable limp and later also in France during his visit there last month, he took support while trying to sit down.

Similarly, during an address to the public in Shenzhen in October 2020, his delay in appearance and slow speech again led to speculation about his ill health. These reports come as China’s economy is under a lot of strain due to oil and gas price hikes, as well as disruption caused by the Ukraine conflict-stricken supply chain. The strict implementation of zero-COVID policy has also put more pressure on China’s domestic market.

The Chinese President is eyeing a historic third term, and in order to achieve that goal the country has decided to temporarily suspend common prosperity. They’ve also slapped penalties on tech behemoths like Apple and Facebook for just this reason.

As the Chinese Communist Party prepares to hold its 20th Party Congress at the end of this year, it has been reported that as economic growth slows down and many other factors contribute to a less attractive market for investors, China would like to not be seen as a risky country. Xi Jinping is set on securing his third term in office later this year with these strategies.

The country’s officials who till a few months ago were ferociously advertising a new era of “Common Prosperity” have shifted their focus to keeping the economy stable and growing, for now.
