MG Astor Launch in India
The SUV from MG ZS is at the brink of launching in India. The Astor will feature a personal AI driver and occupant’s assistance system. This is a first for the car industry in India. Astor will also become the first model to have the artificial intelligence personal assistant. iSmartHub, the integrated AI platform, powers the AI system of the Astor. The AI system along with connected features, and ADAS, makes the SUV a smart-car.
The MG Astor is a variant of the company’s ZS EV, but the former is fossil fueled unlike the latter, which is an electric SUV. But Astor has many differences that make it distinct from its electricity-powered cousin. The grille is larger. Chrome elements are more pronounced. The projector LED lights look distinguished because of this design.
The Daylight Running Lights are the same as the other models, but the grille looks sportier because of extra-large air dams. Inside of the SUV, the dashboard is more or less similar to the XS EV, but has a dual-tones in the form of brown leather outer finish.
This MG Astor has a slew of connected features. On the dashboard is a tiny robot or the MG Astor AI assistant. Speak to the robot in Hinglish or English commands, and the robot responds. This AI assistant does many things. It reads out the news aloud. It can play music, open the sunroof, display navigational guidance etc.
The AI assistant is only half the story. There are more connected features – which makes the MG Astor launch date an eagerly awaited one. The i-Smart platform provides various digital services in the car. The platform integrates with other digital service providers. Some of them are namely Park+, Map My India, Jio, and Koiearth. The driver can do multiple things on the i-SmartHub Platform. From sharing vehicle data with an insurance firm, to reserving a car parking slot, to subscribing to a music streaming service – all of this can be done in the car.
Price
The MG Astor price has a reasonable price point between Rs. 10 lakhs and Rs. 17 lakhs considering that it has a personal AI assistant and ADAS. MG Astor price in India is thought to be about Rs. 12 lakhs average.
MG Astor Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Technology – How It Works
MG Astor comes with Autonomous Driving (AD) capabilities that may be integrated into many ways to the AI assistant in the future. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Technology system is at level 2 AD, which is the standard level at which Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Technology operates. At this level, the SUV is not fully autonomous – the final decisions for most car functions are taken by the driver. Astor’s Bosch ADAS has all the standard features out-of-the-box. Some of them are as follows:
• Adaptive Cruise Control – Automatically calibrates SUV speed to maintain a safe distance with vehicles in the front and back.
• Forward collision warning – Detects slow moving vehicles or stopped vehicles, and warns the driver of immediate action.
• Automatic emergency braking – Can apply breaks on behalf of the driver if there is an object in front of the vehicle.
• Lane keep assist – Steers the vehicle back into the lane when the vehicle veers off the track.
• Lane departure warning – Alerts driver if the vehicle is veering off-track and if necessary veers vehicle back on track.
• Lane departure prevention – Behind the windshield cameras detect line-markers on the road, and prevent the vehicle from going off-track.
• Pedestrian detection – Dedicated display displays pedestrians as a heat source. It is helpful during poor visibility conditions on the outside.
• Speed assist system – speed warning – Alerts the driver of over-speeding on lanes that require speed control.
• Speed assist system – intelligent mode – Alerts the driver and also may reduce the speed to keep the vehicle from over-speeding.
• Rear driver assist – Has different modes such as rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist, blind spot detection. Helps the driver detect incoming vehicles from the driver’s blind spot area.
• Intelligent headlamp control – Dips or dims the headlights based on glare from incoming vehicles. Enhances driver visibility and night vision when driving at night.
All the ADAS features of Astor have reportedly been adapted for India. Considering the price point and features MG Astor launch date in India will be a highly anticipated one. ADAS system works by using a combination of sensors, cameras, and software. As an example, stereo cameras, monocular cameras, and millimeter waves can be used to detect incoming objects to the SUV.

ADAS can use image recognition software to detect road signs, speed limit signs etc. The image is deciphered and the same is communicated to the driver. If needed, this information is used by ADAS to control the vehicle in case of over-speeding.
Ultrasonic sensors can be used in cases of blind spot object detection to emit alarms. Driver monitoring is done constantly by the driver-panel camera that captures the driver’s facial expressions constantly. If the driver appears tired or is about to doze off, the camera is wired to send a signal to alerting software to alert the driver.
