Introduction

#2. Sindhudurg, Maharashtra India

The park was once a Maharajah’s favourite duck-hunting area and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This small town sits at the base of the Salem Mountains and also has many vantage points overlooking the valley. Head downhill  to Kiliyur Falls. Yercaud Lake is not to be missed for its pristine beauty and tranquil atmosphere.

#11. Majuli, Assam India

Located between her two channels of the Brahmaputra River, Majuli Island remains submerged throughout the year. But when the monsoon weakens, sparkling beaches emerge and  Assamese farming communities return to the country.

Head to this serene destination soon, as a rapidly changing climate and raging flash floods from nearby tributaries are expected to hit the district  permanently for years to come.

#13. Usgalimal, Goa India

It is quite possible that you are in Goa in December and not  surrounded by  many people. The village of Usgalimal in South Goa has ancient petroglyphs carved into a bed of laterite rock about 30,000 years ago, but the exact date is still debated.

Here, enjoy some solitude by the Kushavati River before heading to the nearby Lake Budu Bud, known for bubbling all day long. Why this is so is a mystery that must be solved with the locals during your stay.
